Description
Helen Silgee Pre-school in Orlando East started in 1952, in Helen’s own home. Helen was the chairman of a service committee - a community icon, who had a street in Orlando East named after her, as well as the school she founded. Full of energy and initiative, Helen Silgee was deeply committed to young children and community. She joined ASHA to make sure that crèches were built in Orlando East. She founded another four service committees, all working to get crèches started. Today, Helen Silgee Pre-school, recently refurbished with new paving, paint and other improvements, continues to support her vision, providing a good educational foundation for a better future, more than fifty years after Helen started her work with ASHA.
