Description
* Organic Food Garden (Khayelitsha) - The garden is up and running, the surplus is sold to the Khayelitsha Community at cheap prices and also at our Friday Market at Montebello in Newlands. You can either support by buying veg at Montebello or come and help in the garden.
* Dora Tamana Educare Centre - Wherever possible we support this very well run little preschool.
* Khayalitsha Walkabouts - we often bring friends to visit our Mielie crafters in their home in Khayelitsha, so people can see where their bags are "born". We encourage friends to collect clothing, toys and even food to distribute.
Overview
We would love your help in whatever form you are able.
So far we have fenced part of the land, dug and planted 5 trenches with various vegetables (about 25%), established a worm farm and harvest hundreds of kilograms of water hyacinths that choke up the neighbouring river to use as organic matter to make compost. We meet every Wednesday between 12 and 2 pm to learn how to garden organically. Ben Getz and his Urban Harvest Team advise us, help with some of the "dirty work" and also bring seed, manure, cardboard and whatever else we may need. We have an "open gate" policy and anyone is welcome to join in, learn and (hopefully) make their own garden at home.
