GCU is a Christian based community organisation, focusing on inspiring and uplifting the youth in Heideveld situated on the Cape Flats. Heideveld has one of the highest crime and drug addiction rates and is well known for gangster activities. These problems have resulted from high unemployment and the depressing environment that surrounds people on a daily basis.

We need volunteers to sponsor the day and to paint the inside and the outside of the school.

The children that attend the school as well as the community members.

Impact

We are currently working at the school on a sports programme to bring back the excitement of sports in the school and to try and keep the children in school longer. The drop out rate for some of the schools are extremely high. Gatkhin High is a high risk school and needs all the help it can get. There are only 500 pupils at High School which is a very low figure for a high school.

By beautifying the school we believe the learners will be more active and that the community in general will grow.
